Spanish Peer Tutor

Position Overview

The Spanish Peer Tutor will provide in-person tutoring for students enrolled in Spanish classes at Alexander College. They will help students with assignments and practicing the language.

Reporting Relationship

Reports to the WLC Manager

Employment Type

Temporary, Part-Time

Hourly Wage

$17.40 per hour

Work Week

This position requires 5-10 hours a week depending on appointment demand in the Writing & Learning Centre, Tuesday and Thursday.

Location

Alexander College, Burnaby or Vancouver Campus

Education & Experience Requirements

International students are welcome to apply for this on-campus position. In accordance with Citizen and Immigration Canada, students who want to work on-campus do not need a work permit, but do need to meet these basic requirements:

  • Current enrollment in at least the second term of full-time studies at Alexander College
  • Have a valid study permit for the entirety of the current term
  • Maintain at least 80% attendance in all courses
  • Fluent in Spanish speaking and writing
  • Fluent in English speaking and writing

Qualifications

  • Familiarity with the services offered by Alexander College’s Writing & Learning Centre
  • Ability to give instructions and communicate information clearly
  • Positive attitude and outgoing personality

Specific Responsibilities

  • Tutoring students enrolled in SPAN 100 classes
  • Coordinating with the Spanish instructors to provide help with assignments and course content
  • Doing introductions and offering services to students in Spanish classes
  • Referring students to other services in the Writing & Learning Centre as needed
