Meet the Members

Each member has written a personal statement so you can get to know them better.

President Barinderjeet Singh:

“My name is Barinderjeet Singh and I’m honored to serve as the President of the Alexander College Student Association for the year 2023. As an Associate of Arts student, I’m grateful for the opportunities and experiences I’ve had at this institution.

I come from Punjab and have a diverse background that includes being a certified PTE Academic trainer and a graphic designer. In fact, I even won a silver medal at the “Khitab-e-Dastar 2017” award.

I love to make new friends and help others. I’m always up for trying new things and designing is one of my favorite hobbies.

After completing my studies at Alexander College, I plan to prepare myself for a satisfying and rewarding job, while continuing my education at a university. My ultimate goal is to become an entrepreneur and make a positive impact in the world.

As an international student, I understand the challenges of adapting to a new environment. That’s why I advise every international student to learn useful skills, such as cooking, and be mentally prepared for their journey before coming to Canada. With the right mindset and skills, I’m confident that international students can succeed in their studies and beyond.

My pledge to the students is to provide altruistic motivation and assist in their success at Alexander College.”

Admin and Finance Ana Paula Machado:

“Hi, I’m Ana, the ACSA Administrative and Finance Representative. I’m Brazilian and I have worked as a lawyer. I love to travel around the world!

Currently, I am an Associate of Arts student majoring in International Relations. In my free time I love to practice sports and read books!

I think studying abroad is a great opportunity to get out of your comfort zone and open up to new horizons. Come, you won’t regret it!

I have extensive experience in administration and finance and will use my knowledge to help put the students’ aspirations into practice.”

Clubs and Events Jashanpreet Buttar:

“My name is Jashanpreet Singh Buttar, and I currently act as the ACSA’s representative for clubs and events.

I am an international student from Punjab, India, and I am majoring in psychology for my Associate of Arts. I enjoy reading books and exploring new places.

My key priorities will be on student interests, developing solid relationships, hosting exciting activities, and enhancing the overall experience of students at Alexander College.

As an international student, I would encourage my peers to keep an open mind approach, be curious, and actively look for opportunities to interact with Canadian culture and the Canadian community while they are studying.

With an abundance of experience working on campus and helping people, I am honored to represent the students at Alexander College. It’s time to move forward and create change!”

Wellness and Advocacy Representative Saori Masaki:

“I am Saori Masaki and I am the Health and Wellness manager at ACSA. I’m currently taking Commerce, Economics, and English courses at AC.

I’ve been working at AC as a student worker, and have met many students here! It has been great experiences.

I love coffee and nature. These two are great stress relief for my life. I would like to pursue my business career after graduating AC, so I try hard to study everything I could learn at AC.

If you are a student who wants to study in Canada, set a specific goal for yourself, and start taking steps forward even before coming to Canada! Then you’ll succeed at anything you want to achieve!

With a year of experience working as a student worker in college, I understand the problems that students face and how to handle them. I am ready to help them!”

Sustainability Representative Carolina Vargas:

“Hi, my name is Carolina Jerez, and I am the ACSA Sustainability Representative.

I moved to Vancouver with my son last year in October. I got a diploma in international trade in Colombia, worked for Bank Occidente for 24 years, and my last position was as a personal banker. My entire professional career was in the same company, and I climbed several positions.

I am currently studying Psychology and in my free time I love exercising, playing basketball, watching cinema and theatre and I love performing activities in nature.

My advice for international students who want to study in Canada is this: organize your time well and use the tools provided by the college.

I am passionate about nature and environmental protection and can contribute to workshops and awareness events that help engage all Alexander College students in actively committing to sustainability.”
