Library Services

The library’s hours for the Fall Term are Monday to Thursday 8:00am-9:00pm, Friday 8:00am-6:00pm, and Saturday 8:00am-4:30pm PST. The Alexander College Library serves the students, faculty, and staff of the college, and has a variety of resources available to borrow or use such as:
  • Fiction and non-fiction books
  • Previous edition and current textbooks
  • Access to online databases for academic articles and e-books
  • DVDs, video games
  • Laptops
  • Desktop computers
  • Quiet study room
  • Two study rooms that can be booked
If you wish to borrow items from the AC Library, you must present your Alexander College Student ID at the library circulation desk. You can renew items you have already borrowed (if no one else has placed a hold on the item) to keep them for a longer period. You can also place reserves on items that have already been borrowed by someone else so you can borrow them first after the item is returned.

Library Policies

It is the responsibility of all AC students, faculty, and staff to observe all library policies. Please note that food and uncovered drinks are not allowed in the library. For more information about the library policies including conduct, noise, library materials, and computer use, please visit the Library Policy page.

Student IDs

The AC Library oversees the creation of both virtual and physical student IDs. If you are taking online courses this semester you will be receiving in the coming weeks an email invitation to join a Canvas course. Please accept this invitation and complete the course by uploading a scan or photo of a piece of government issued photo ID (passport, BCID, BC driver’s license or permanent residency card) and a good quality photo of yourself from the shoulders up, against a plain white background, no hats (religious head covering is fine), and good lighting. After these two things are uploaded to Canvas, library staff will go over the submission and, if acceptable, upload the photo to your myAC profile which will be your virtual student ID.

If you have in person classes, you will need a physical student ID card. To get an ID card you will need to come to the library and present a piece of government issued photo ID (passport, BCID, BC driver’s license or permanent residency card). Library staff will verify the ID against your myAC profile, take your photograph, and print your ID card.

Library Online Databases

The AC Library provides students with access to multiple databases to support their research. Students can access them remotely on a device with an internet connection. The databases contain millions of journal articles from across all the subject areas offered at Alexander College. The library also has access to many open access materials. To access the online library resources, log in using your student identification number and your last/family name (all lowercase with no punctuation).

Research Help

Alexander College students can book 1-1 research appointments with a library staff member. In these appointments, library staff will teach students how to do research independently. Staff can review your topic, help you develop keywords and search strategies, and teach you how to check if a source is academic. Appointments are 30 minutes and can be booked for in-person or virtual via Zoom. Login to your WCOnline account and select schedule 08 (IN PERSON Library Research Help) or 09 (ONLINE Library Research Help) and choose a date/time. For more information about research help for students, and research guides for different subject areas, visit the Research Help page on the library website.
