Book Club Featured Book: “Annihilation”

Written by Alexander College in Library Blog on September 26, 2018

This semester’s book club will be reading Annihiliation, a science fiction/horror novel written by Jeff Vandermeer. The book follows an expedition of four women (a biologist, anthropologist, psychologist, and a surveyor) into an abandoned area of land known as Area X. They are the 12th expedition and past expeditions have been fraught with disappearances, suicides, aggressive cancers, and mental trauma.

This particular novel was adapted into a film in 2017 with the same name, starring Natalie Portman and directed by Alex Garland, the writer of Ex Machina. When we have finished reading the book, a movie night featuring Annihilation will be hosted for the book club and others.

When you join the book club you will receive a free copy of this book. The club will meet twice a month at a specified location and any drinks and treats offered will also be free! If you have any more questions about the club or if you are looking to register, please email the AC Library Assistants: Raul Campos at and Gillian Blore at
