I work alongside both campus Directors and attend to several ongoing administrative functions. I work to support our staff, students, and instructors in many ways. I meet with students to discuss a variety of situations, such as exam time conflicts, exam deferrals due to sickness or family emergency, academic policy appeals, and general concerns. I also oversee the administration of part-time jobs on campus for students, assist with human resource functions, manage projects for improvement to the facilities, organize large staff events, and answer to any other miscellaneous questions or concerns. Olesya Rud, Executive Assistant and Academic Process Coordinator

As an Executive Assistant, I am responsible for the efficient operation of the Vancouver campus. I perform a variety of daily task such as scheduling meetings for the directors, taking minutes at the executive meetings and purchasing equipment for the college. I also assist with event planning and organization of different workshops, as well as oversee repairs and maintenance of facilities at the downtown campus. As an Academic Process Coordinator, I am responsible for scheduling the final exams, resolving exam conflicts, arranging invigilation schedules and maintaining the academic records. I also help students who require assistance with exam rescheduling, exam deferrals, grade appeals, academic appeals and attendance issues. My primary task is to make sure that students, instructors and visitors feel welcomed, so please drop by anytime and I will be happy to assist you.

I assist the Directors at Alexander College with the maintenance of administrative systems, procedures and processes, including keeping track of student academic records, dealing with Attendance and Academic Appeals, and keeping the staff and faculty informed of upcoming events and activities. I am also responsible for scheduling appointments and meetings, organizing databases and filing systems, as well as organizing the final exam and invigilation schedules. If you have any questions about schedules, deferred exams, job opportunities and college in general, I will be happy to talk with you and do my best to help. Library staff can support you in your studies by helping you locate and obtain information for your research papers. I can show you how to access library resources like journal databases, books, eBooks, and the internet. I can also assist you with tasks such as checking your course websites on AC Online, registering for courses, ordering official documents, as well as applying for a student card, provided that you bring some official form of photo identification (passport, driver’s license, or BC ID).

From Monday to Friday, I am always happy to help, but to ensure that I will be available; I recommend that you contact me by email or phone to make an appointment. Finally, if you are looking for a good book to read for fun or to practice your reading skills, stop by the library and I can recommend something!

Deciding what class to take can be challenging.  At Alexander College we want to ensure that students are enroled in the classes best suited for their academic skill level.  The placement test helps determine what class a student needs to take based on their knowledge and abilities in the areas of English, Math, and Chemistry. My job is to administer the placement tests.  I often work with international students or students who are beginning their post-secondary education.  I enjoy welcoming students into our college and helping them get started with their academic studies. As a Liaison Officer, I provide consultation for existing or prospective students with their application, course selection, and registration. As a former international student, I myself experienced the local education system. Now, I enjoy helping students from varied cultural backgrounds, drawing upon my own personal experience and knowledge. I am fluent in English and Mandarin. In addition to assisting students, I am also a member of the Marketing Department. I connect with local agencies, and also travel to China to foster connections with overseas agencies and international students. As International Liaison Coordinator at Alexander College, my role is to act as a guide for the College’s marketing efforts internationally.

Working with the Marketing Department to enter into new geographic markets (Africa, SE Asia and Eastern Europe) and maintain current markets for enrolment. I aim to provide exemplary service to Alexander College’s global partners as well as students as they embark on their academic journey at Alexander College. I lived abroad for more than 16 years with work experience in more than 30 countries and was an international student myself (MBA earned in Korea) so I would like to draw on my previous experience in order to best support and help students with their academic needs. As manager for both of Alexander College’s Writing and Learning Centres I am proud to say we offer a range of academic supports that is unequaled by any other college in the region.  In addition to managing our resource team, I assist students with academic writing (organizing their research, structuring their essays, grammar, flow of ideas, citations, etc.) and humanities. If I am not working directly with students, I am busy developing new workshops and student resources to keep improving and enhancing the range of services offered by the Writing and Learning Centre.

Many of them are also English instructors here at the College. Students can come to me to discuss any concerns over anxiety, depression, relationships, loneliness, substance misuse or other personal matters. I also help those students who are struggling to adjust to life in Vancouver, and or to meet their health and wellness goals. Together we develop a plan that meets their needs and helps them cope with their problems.
