Now that you have been admitted to Alexander College, it’s time to prepare your equipment.

Essential item number 1: A computer or laptop 

Your classes will require the use of a Personal Computer or Laptop. This is essential for successful study at AC, you cannot study virtually using a mobile phone and we do not advise that you share a computer or laptop.

If you do not already own a laptop or personal computer, please review our recommended specifications below.


All the following specifications should be considered minimum requirements.

  • Compatible Operating Systems: (e.g. Windows, Mac, Linux)
  • Webcam/Microphone: Both a webcam and microphone are mandatory to participate in class and write exams
  • CPU: Intel Core i3 8100, AMD Ryzen 2 1300
  • RAM: 4GB minimum
  • Hard Drive: 500 GB HDD or 128GB SSD
  • Screen: 13-inch
  • USB Ports: USB-A or USB-C or Thunderbolt
  • Screen Ports: HDMI or DisplayPort


  • Anti-Virus/Security Software (e.g. MalwareByte, McAfee or other security programs)
  • Storage space (e.g. USB drives or an external hard drive)
  • An extended warranty (e.g. for hardware issues)

To save on the cost of a new laptop, consider second-hand or refurbished options from your local retailer.

Essential item number 2: Reliable Internet Access 

You will need a reliable and secure internet connection at home in order to safely access your classes. For privacy and security reasons we recommend that students use a secured network, rather than rely on a public network, which could be unsafe. A secured network should be password protected.

Essential item number 3: Personal Email Address 

Email is the primary method of communication between you and Alexander College. You will require a personal email address in order to stay up to date for your studies. For privacy and security reasons, only you should have access to this email address.

Essential item number 4: Textbooks 

To be successful in your courses, you will need the course textbook or books. Be sure to check out our video about how to find and purchase your textbooks, coming up next.

Essential item number 5: Notebooks, pens/pencils, highlighters, calculator, USB flash drive 

Prepare yourself for success by stocking up essentials that you will need to help you organize your papers and files, take notes, etc.
