Alexander College student ID cards are required to access many of our student services, including the Office of the Registrar, Library Services, and to write exams.

For online terms, physical student ID cards will no longer be issued from the Library. Instead, we ask that all students submit a government picture ID and a recent photo of themselves, which will act as a virtual student ID and be uploaded to the myAC Student Portal.

How Do I Upload a Photo for my Virtual Student ID?

All new students will be added to a Canvas course called: “AC Student ID Photo”. There will be just two assignments in the course, which will ask students to verify their identity by uploading a government issue photo ID and uploading a photo for their AC virtual ID.

What Type of Photo Should I Submit?

Please submit your proof of identity by uploading either:

  • A scan or clear color photo of your passport information page (includes your name, photo, and date of birth).
  • A scan or clear color photo of a BC government issued photo ID (e.g. B.C Driver’s License or BC Services Card).

Please submit your AC ID photo by following the instructions below:

  • Photo of student from shoulders up
  • Plain background (white preferred)
  • No hats, sunglasses, bandanas, etc.
  • Glasses are ok as long as there is no glare on the lenses
  • Both eyes must be open
  • Photo must be clear (not blurry)
  • Smile!
  • JPEG, PNG file types accepted

*These photos will be uploaded to myAC for your professor to see and may also be used for printed ID cards. ID cards give students access to borrowing Library materials, are needed to write on-campus midterm and final exams.*

Please see the sample ID card for a good idea of what your own photo should look like

How Do I Know if My Photo Was Accepted?

When a student has uploaded an appropriate photo, we will mark the assignment as “Complete” – no further action from the student will be needed.

Accepted Photo ID

Please note – we may mark some non-appropriate images (e.g. images outside of our specifications) as “Incomplete” and attach comments to the image. If a student has uploaded a non-appropriate image, they will have the opportunity to re-upload with a new photo.
