Manager, Business Development and Partnerships

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Manager, Business Development and Partnerships is responsible for leading the growth of strategic relationships that enhance the college’s academic offerings, student mobility, and institutional reputation both locally and globally. This includes negotiating and managing articulation and credit transfer agreements, developing global academic pathways, and identifying new partnership opportunities.

The role also requires marketing and proposal development skills to effectively promote the college and secure external funding through competitive government grants and project opportunities. The ideal candidate will possess native-level English fluency, strong professional writing skills, and a proven ability to build sustainable collaborations.

SALARY RANGE

$80,000-90,000 per year based on experience

WORK WEEK

The Employee will work during regular business hours, Monday to Friday for 37.5 hours per week (not including a 30-minute unpaid meal break per day). Flexibility will be required. Occasional evening and weekend shifts may be required.

LOCATION

The Burnaby and Vancouver Campus. Flexibility to travel between and work at both campuses may be required. Occasional travel may be required (domestic and international). Hybrid work model available.

Alexander College offers a variety of undergraduate programs, including University Transfer, an Associate of Arts degree, and an Associate of Science degree. An integrated English for Academic Purposes program is also available to assist non-native English speakers with their transition to university level studies in the English language.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, International Relations, Education, Marketing, or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in higher education, business development, or international education
  • Demonstrated experience in negotiating and managing institutional agreements, particularly related to credit transfer or articulation
  • Experience in writing and managing government funding proposals and projects
  • Familiarity with provincial and national articulation frameworks such as BCCAT
  • Native or near-native English fluency required due to frequent complex written negotiations and verbal interactions with English-speaking clients
  • Strong presentation, marketing, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Knowledge of higher education systems in Canada and abroad, with an understanding of credit transfer systems
  • Strategic thinker with strong project planning, problem-solving, and analytical abilities
  • Culturally aware and effective in cross-border collaboration
  • Experience with Canadian federal and provincial education funding programs
  • Knowledge of international recruitment or mobility initiatives

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Business Development and Strategic Partnerships

  • Identify, develop, and maintain institutional partnerships with post-secondary institutions, professional organizations, and industry partners in Canada and internationally
  • Negotiate and manage articulation agreements, and student mobility programs
  • Conduct market research to identify strategic growth opportunities for new program development and international expansion

Credit Transfer and Articulation

  • Lead the development and management of domestic and international credit transfer agreements
  • Collaborate with academic departments to assess curriculum alignment and ensure effective transfer pathways
  • Liaise with provincial and national transfer councils (e.g., BCCAT) to align practices and maintain compliance

Government Project and Funding Applications

  • Identify relevant government and public-sector grant opportunities at the federal, provincial, and international levels
  • Lead the preparation, writing, and submission of funding proposals and project applications in collaboration with other departments
  • Manage grant reporting and compliance, including tracking deliverables and outcomes for funded initiatives

Marketing and Communication

  • Create promotional materials, presentations, and reports to support partnership and funding activities
  • Represent the college at conferences, partner meetings, and recruitment or diplomatic events
  • Develop marketing strategies to raise the visibility of transfer pathways and partnership programs

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Maintain strong working relationships with internal stakeholders, including senior leadership, academic departments, marketing, and admissions teams
  • Serve as a key liaison with external partners to facilitate long-term engagement and program success
  • Provide briefings and strategic insights to leadership on trends in internationalization and partnership models

Project Management and Reporting

  • Oversee the implementation of partnership projects and initiatives from inception to evaluation
  • Maintain accurate documentation of all agreements and projects, ensuring deadlines and deliverables are met
  • Prepare regular progress reports and metrics for internal and external stakeholders
