Student Financial Aid

Canadian citizens and permanent residents are eligible to apply for educational funding from the province of British Columbia through StudentAid BC. Educational student loans are available for students of Alexander College from the national government of Canada, as well as from the province of British Columbia. Funding from StudentAid BC is available for students enrolled in Associate Degree programs only.

Loan Eligibility Requirements

  • Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person status
  • Resident of British Columbia
  • Registered for full-time studies (at least 3 university level courses)
  • Enrolled in an eligible program of study at an eligible post-secondary institution
  • Able to demonstrate financial need
  • Have a valid Canadian social insurance number that does not start with 0 or 8 (these social insurance numbers are not eligible for StudentAid BC)
  • Make academic progress and achieve satisfactory scholastic standing in each period of post-secondary study

You may not be eligible if you are:

  • Delinquent or in default of previous student loans.
  • Under audit or have an overaward (in this case your funding may be withheld), or
  • Incarcerated or have any outstanding warrants for your arrest.

In order to ensure that funding will arrive in time for the beginning of the semester, applications for national and provincial funding must be submitted at least 5-6 weeks prior to the start of classes. Applications for Student Aid BC funding must be submitted no later than 6 weeks prior to the term end date.
