Zoom is a video conferencing app where people can have video meetings and communicate via audio or chat.
Alexander College uses Zoom for online synchronous classes that have regular lectures. Students use Zoom to communicate with their instructor and classmates and participate in class activities.
Students may also use Zoom for virtual meetings with support staff or virtual workshops and other events.
You can join Zoom using any browser on a laptop, tablet, or phone.
If you have an online class, log into the MyAC portal. Click on ‘My Current Courses’. Under your class, you will see a button that says ‘Launch Zoom’. Click on it to start Zoom and join your class.
For an appointment, workshop, or other event, click on the Zoom link provided or follow the directions from that department.

The Zoom link becomes active 15 minutes before class time (e.g., if your class starts at 3:00pm, the Zoom link is available at 2:45pm). Try joining a few minutes before your online class starts.
No, you don’t. You can join Zoom from a browser without an account.
Yes, all online classes use Zoom. However, asynchronous online classes do not have regular class times and may not require Zoom.
Yes. To participate effectively in an online class, you need to be able to speak with a microphone and appear on video.
Zoom can be used on your phone. However, for online classes and workshops, you must join Zoom with a laptop. Doing many assignments or class activities is sometimes difficult or impossible with a phone, and all online classes require a laptop.
