Today we shine our Alumni Spotlight on Erin He from China! Erin transferred to the University of British Columbia (UBC) upon graduation from Alexander College and completed her graduate studies at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in the United States. She now works as a data scientist for a social media company in the United States.
Initially missing the university application deadline, she chose Alexander College as her starting point, planning to transfer after one or two years.
Reflecting on her time at Alexander College, Erin fondly recalls building lasting friendships and forming strong bonds with professors. One particularly memorable professor was Laurel, who taught her microeconomics and significantly impacted her academic growth.
Erin appreciated Alexander College’s smooth and supportive transfer process, noting that it required minimal effort thanks to the assistance provided by college staff. She particularly valued the smaller class sizes at AC, which allowed for personalized attention and deeper relationships, something she felt would have been difficult in larger university settings.
One of Erin’s key takeaways from her time at AC was learning effective communication and teamwork through collaborative school projects. She vividly remembers the rigorous standards of AC’s writing courses, which substantially improved her skills and provided invaluable preparation for further academic studies.
Her advice to current students includes taking courses outside their initial fields of interest to discover potential new passions. She also encourages students to participate in volunteer activities to enhance their resumes and collaborate with peers on interview preparation and job searches.
If you’re a current student at AC, we would love to hear our story! Contact us at social@alexandercollege.ca and you may have a chance to be featured in a future blog and video.
