Starting a New Club

Have an idea for a club? We would love to hear it!

Clubs are a great way to meet new people, share your interests, build leadership and teamwork skills, and get involved in the AC community. Clubs are organized around shared interests and can focus on areas such as culture, hobbies, sports and recreation, academics, professional interests, or other activities that bring students together.

You do not need previous club or leadership experience to get started. Student Life is here to help you through the process.

How to Start a Club

1. Think about your club idea

Start with a simple idea of what you would like your club to do. Think about:

  • What is the purpose of your club?
  • What activities or events would you like to organize?
  • Who might be interested in joining?
  • How will your club help students connect, participate, or contribute to the AC community?

You do not need to have everything planned before contacting Student Life.

2. Find students who are interested

Talk to other students who may want to join your club. To start a new club, you will need a minimum of four interested students, including the student proposing the club. Having other interested students also gives you people who can help organize meetings, activities, and events. You do not have to run the club by yourself.

3. Submit a Club Application

Once you have your idea and at least four interested students, complete the Club Application Form.

The form will ask for some basic information about your club, including its purpose, planned activities, and the students interested in participating.

4. Meet with Student Life (7th Floor, Room 711)

If your application meets the initial requirements, a member of the Student Life team will contact you to discuss your club and the next steps in the approval process.

This is an opportunity to talk about your ideas, ask questions, and learn about the resources available to help you get started.

Student Life can help you with:

  • Understanding the club process and requirements
  • Planning meetings and activities
  • Promoting your club and recruiting members
  • Booking space for approved club activities
  • Planning events
  • Accessing available club resources, including snacks and beverages that may be provided by Student Life based on approval and inventory availability
  • Connecting with ACSA and other students

Club Approval Criteria

Club applications will be reviewed based on the following considerations:

  • Alignment with Alexander College’s values, policies, and student community standards
  • A clear club purpose and proposed activities
  • Demonstrated student interest and participation
  • The club does not significantly duplicate an existing active club

Club meetings and activities must take place during approved campus hours and may be subject to room availability and Student Life scheduling requirements.

What Kind of Club Can I Start?

We welcome club ideas that help create a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive AC community. Club applications will be reviewed to ensure they align with the mission, values, and policies of Alexander College and contribute positively to the student experience.

Your club should have a clear purpose and follow Alexander College policies and expectations for student conduct. Club activities should be safe, respectful, and welcoming to students.

Clubs must not promote discrimination, harassment, hate, violence, or activities that could put members of the AC community at risk. Approved clubs are expected to maintain active membership and regularly engage with Student Life throughout the term.

Club meetings and activities must take place during approved campus hours and may be subject to room availability and Student Life scheduling requirements.

Not sure whether your idea would work as a club? Ask us! You are welcome to speak with Student Life before submitting an application.
