A Type II Academic Alert is issued in cases of unintentional plagiarism. This occurs when a student breaches academic integrity rules without intending to gain an unfair academic advantage. Common examples include forgetting to cite sources properly or misunderstanding citation guidelines. While the student’s actions violate academic integrity, the lack of intent to deceive distinguishes a Type II alert from a more serious Type I alert, which involves deliberate cheating or plagiarism.
When you receive a Type II Academic Alert, you will be required to attend a Citation Workshop with the Writing and Learning Centre.
Failure to attend the workshop will result in a hold on your student account which will remain in place until the workshop is successfully completed.

We are grateful to have the opportunity to work in this territory.
