On July 19, 2024, we celebrated the achievements of our graduating class of Fall 2023 and Winter 2024! A total of about 350 students of the total 450 graduates walked the stage during the Convocation Ceremony and we couldn’t be prouder.
Of course, we captured this momentous occasion through photos, videos, and interviews! This blog post will cover the ceremony proceedings as well as some of the questions we asked our graduating class.
Our emcee for this convocation ceremony was Graeme Abernethy, our English Department Head.
Honorable Justice Stephen Kelleher was our guest speaker for this ceremony. He is a retired judge of the Supreme Court of BC and he joined Alexander College’s Board of Directors in 2023.
Our valedictorian, Justine Jenn-Ting Ming, gave a speech on her academic journey and the lessons she learned along the way.
Q. Do you have any future plans after graduation?
”I’m actually planning to study at UBC in the fall.”
For the majority of the graduates we asked, they responded that they would like to pursue further education at a university. Some students also looked forward to bringing their culture and experiences to their future endeavours.
Q. What will you miss the most about AC?
”I think I’m going to miss being an international student, to meet many many people from many countries and learn from them.”
Everyone we interviewed said they were going to miss the inclusive atmosphere at Alexander College and all the friends they made who come from different countries.
Q. What is one of your favourite memories of AC?
When we asked about their favourite memories at AC, we received a variety of responses. For some, it was looking back fondly on the interactions with staff and other students.
For others, it was the various events hosted by ACSA and Student Life that made their time at Alexander College truly memorable.
”Class of 2024, I want to ask you: what are your dreams? What are your aspirations? Whatever they may be, I hope all of us here today never lose the courage to discover the unknown.
“Congratulations class of 2024. May our futures be filled with endless possibilities and continued success.”
Congratulations again to all of our graduates who worked hard to receive their degrees and we wish you all the best in your future plans!
