What happens if I disagree with an Academic Alert?

Alexander College believes in the principles of natural justice and student self-advocacy. Therefore, students can contact the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities (SRR) if they wish to appeal their Academic Alert.

Each student has 10 calendar days to appeal their Academic Alert. It is mandatory to view the academic alert evidence with a Student Rights and Responsibilities Assistant before submitting an appeal. Students are required to attend an Academic Integrity Workshop with the Writing and Learning Centre, even if they intend to submit an appeal. Should a student file an academic appeal, the instructor will be required to assist Student Rights and Responsibilities. Students may be required to have an appointment with either their instructor or an SRR staff member to discuss the academic alert and/or appeal. Please note that if your appeal is approved, it may result in cancellation of the alert or a downgrade to a Type II.

More information regarding the academic appeal process can be found on our website here.

Please note that only students who received standard Academic Alerts can appeal. Students with Type II Academic Alerts do not get to appeal because Type II Academic Alerts do not count towards suspensions or expulsions.

Alexander College acknowledges that the land on which we usually gather is the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the Coast Salish peoples, including the territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. We are grateful to have the opportunity to work in this territory.
