Alexander College upholds the principles of natural justice and student self-advocacy. As such, students who wish to dispute allegations of an intentional violation of academic integrity (Type I Academic Alert) may submit an Academic Appeal.
Students have 10 calendar days from the date of notification to file an appeal. Before an appeal is accepted, students must review the evidence submitted with the alert, with an SRR Assistant. This step is mandatory as it allows students to fully understand the reasons behind the alert and can effectively support their case.
Even if students plan to appeal, they are still required to attend an Academic Integrity Workshop with the Writing and Learning Centre (for their first Type I Academic Alert). Additionally, SRR and/or the instructor may schedule a meeting with the student to discuss the alert and the appeal, if deemed necessary by SRR.
If the appeal is successful, the Academic Alert will either be cancelled or downgraded to a Type II. Please note, students with a Type II alert are not eligible to appeal, as these cases result in learning opportunities rather than punitive sanctions, with grade penalties applied according to the grading rubric.
