Pathways and Block Transfers

Summary

Alexander College (AC) and British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) have a transfer pathway agreement to BCIT’s School of Business and Media (SoBM).

Requirements

BCIT will consider a student applying for admission to BCIT School of Business and Media (SoBM) in a program or course of study (the “BCIT Program”) to have satisfied the BCIT Entrance Requirements where such student:

1. has completed all AC Courses set out in Schedule B – Institution Transfer Mapping; and
2. has completed AC Courses at the Level of Competency set out in Schedule A {the “Level of Competency”)

Schedule A: Business Management Advanced Placement Requirements:

1. Candidates must complete the AC courses specified in Schedule B, including a minimum of 47 credits, in order to qualify for Advanced Placement to level 3 of the BCIT Business Management Diploma. Completion of these AC courses would then qualify students to compete for a seat in the BCIT Bachelor of Business Administration.
2. The level of competency required of AC students is: passing grade of 60% in all courses.

Schedule B: Institution Transfer Mapping

The following course mapping would enable AC students to satisfy all Level 1 and Level 2 BCIT Business Management Diploma course requirements while also meeting the required BCIT credit count.

In total, the AC pathway consists of 17 courses.

• To meet BCIT’s FMGT 2152 requirement, AC students would be required to take both COMM 293 and COMM 294.
• To meet BCIT’s GTTM 1353 requirement, AC students would take INST 101 or ECON 255 (see attached course outlines).

Summary

   1. Passing grade of 60% (minimum letter grade “C”) in all courses.

   2. Must be issued within one year of your application date.

Alexander College students who have completed the requirements for the Associate of Arts Degree (general or concentration) will have guaranteed admission into Capilano University’s Bachelor of Arts with a major in Interdisciplinary Studies.

Requirements

Students who have completed Alexander College’s Associate of Arts degree (general or concentration) with a minimum program GPA of 2.0 will be admitted directly into the third year of Capilano University’s Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Interdisciplinary Studies.

The following are specific program requirements for transfer:

Capilano University – Interdisciplinary Studies BA

*Alexander College credits in specific areas (such as languages) may be used to fulfill other Capilano degree requirements as deemed appropriate by the Capilano Transfer Credit Office.

Note that Alexander students who have completed their Associate of Arts but are missing specific course requirements as outlined above are still eligible to transfer to Capilano University, but will need to make up the equivalent courses with support from Capilano’s advising office.

Students who have completed Alexander College’s Associate of Science degree with a minimum program GPA of 2.0 and the courses specified below will be admitted directly into the third year of Capilano University’s Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Environmental Studies.

The following are specific program requirements for transfer:

Capilano University – Bachelor of Science with a major in Environmental Studies

Notes:

1. Alexander College students who have obtained an Associate of Science degree but who do not meet the terms and conditions detailed here may still apply for admission to Capilano University outside the scope of this agreement. Such students will need to satisfy specific lower-division course requirements with support from Capilano’s advising office.
2. Capilano University recognizes Alexander College’s INST 101 (3) as a course substitution for Capilano University’s INTS 110 (3).
3. AC transfer students who complete all of the course requirements described above may apply to Capilano University’s Bachelor of Science degree with a concentration in Biomedical Science after completing Capilano’s CHEM 215: Biochemistry I: Macromolecular Structure and Function (3) or equivalent. Taking this additional course at Capilano University will have minimal effect on academic progression.

The Alexander College Program transfer to the Kwantlen Polytechnic University Program is designed for students pursuing or who have completed an Associate of Arts Degree or Associate of Science Degree from Alexander College, who are interested in laddering into a Kwantlen Polytechnic University Program.

AC students who transfer to KPU will be required to fulfill all program specific curricular requirements as outlined in the University Calendar, as well as credential requirements as outlined in policy AC14 KPU Credential Framework.

Requirements

All candidates seeking admission to undergraduate programs must fulfill KPU’s Admissions policy and the Undergraduate English Proficiency Requirement. The specific criteria for this requirement are detailed in KPU’s University Calendar and is subject to change.

General admission requirements and program specific admission requirements are subject to change at any time.

The following table illustrates the eligible transfer credit AC students may receive.

Upon transfer to KPU’s BSc, Major in Health Science, AC transfer students will be required to complete the following courses:

1. BIOL 2320 (4) – Genetics
2. HSCI 2220 (3) – Medical Terminology

In addition to the general requirements stated above, all applicants to the Bachelor of Psychiatric Nursing program in 25/26 academic year are obligated to fulfill the admission requirements as stated in the University Calendar to qualify for admission. The following courses are eligible for transfer credit towards the Bachelor of Psychiatric Nursing program:

Please note that Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) is currently undertaking a review of the program structure and admission requirements for the Bachelor of Psychiatric Nursing (BPN) program, with potential changes to take effect for the Fall 2027 intake. No changes will be implemented for the 2025/2026 academic year; however, prospective applicants should be aware that updates may occur in preparation for the Fall 2027 intake.

Summary

Alexander College (AC) and Royal Roads University (RRU) have a pathway agreement to the third year of RRU’s Bachelor of Business Administration, major in Sustainability and Innovation, or Bachelor of Arts, major in Professional Communication.

Requirements

RRU agrees to recognize students from Alexander College with appropriate prerequisite qualifications as having met the 60-credit basis of admission into the third year of Bachelor of Business Administration in Sustainability and Innovation and Bachelor of Arts in Professional Communication at RRU.

Applicants from Alexander College who meet the requirements outlined below will be eligible for admission into the third year of the RRU programs specified in this agreement, provided all other entrance criteria are met (per each program’s admission requirement s) and space remains available.

For the Bachelor of Business Administration in Sustainability and Innovation, succes ful completion, with a minimum “B” (3.00/4.33) GPA, of:

Summary

The UFV Bachelor of Arts (BA) program is a 120-credit degree credential in which students gain valuable skills in writing, communications, critical thinking, research, problem-solving, and more. Career outcomes for Bachelor of Arts graduates relates to their chosen discipline and may include social services, management, community development, law enforcement, public relations, marketing and more. Options are also open to pursue further studies and launch a career in arts, education, counselling, law, politics, or finance.

Under this agreement, Alexander College students/graduates will have completed between 30-60 transfer credits towards the Bachelor of Arts degree in a specialized area of interest that includes:

• History (major, minor, extended minor)
• Economics (major, minor)
• English (major, minor, extended minor)
• Sociology (major, minor, extended minor)

For students who do not meet the requirements for a Bachelor of Arts Degree, a Bachelor of Integrated Studies is an option with consultation from UFV advisor.

Requirements

To be admitted to the BA under this agreement, an Alexander College student must have met the academic requirements listed below. Subject to the terms and conditions provided here, Alexander College students who have completed the requirements for a degree listed below, with the specific courses identified, will have guaranteed admission into the third year of the agreed BA degree program at UFV.

Academic Requirements

• Completion of ENGL 100 or ENGL 200 at Alexander College.
• One of the following:
  • Completion of a minimum of 30 credits in courses numbered at the 100-level and above, with a cumulative GPA of 2.00 on all credits attempted.
  • Completion of a minimum of nine credits at the 100-level and above in suggested BA or BIS degree pathway, transferable to a degree program, with a minimum GPA of 3.00 on all credits attempted.

Residency Requirement

A minimum of 50% of the credits (or 60 credits) completed in the UFV BA (see Appendix A for pathway) must be completed at UFV.

Program Requirements

The BA is divided into four learning areas:

• Core competencies
• Second language competency
• Subject-Area specialization
• General electives

Students design their degree by selecting courses to meet the following requirements:

• 120 credits, of which 60 credits must be completed at UFV.
• One major, of which 50% of the upper-level credits must be completed at UFV. (Students may consider combining their major with another major, a minor/extended minor, or minors/extended minors.)
• 65 credits in Arts subjects.
• 55 credits in any subject at the university level (100-level and above).
• At least 45 upper-level credits, of which 30 credits must be completed at UFV.

Summary

The purpose of this agreement is to provide guaranteed pathways for students to continue their studies at UNBC, and to outline the terms and conditions for students from Alexander College transferring to UNBC.

Alexander College applicants who have completed the Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree will be considered for admission to Year 3 of Bachelor’s programs at UNBC as external transfer students.

Such students will be admitted to a specified degree program and must meet the eligibility requirements as specified in 2.3. UNBC currently guarantees priority admission and full transfer credit (60 credit hours) to students who have completed an Associate of Arts or Science degree, but they must complete all outstanding requirements of the baccalaureate degree not completed in the associate degree.

Alexander College applicants who have not completed the Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree will be considered for admission as external transfer students on a credit-by-credit basis, based on the assessment of transfer credits for the courses completed. Students will be admitted to a specified plan of study and must meet the eligibility requirements as specified in 2.3. The number of transfer credits granted will determine the year of study into which the students are admitted.

UNBC will award a minimum of five 2-course tuition waivers to Alexander students that transfer to UNBC. These awards will be based on academic excellence, with a waiver provided in each of the first two semesters.

Requirements

To be eligible for admission to UNBC, student applicants from Alexander College must meet the following academic requirements:

• A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00, as determined by UNBC, in all university transfer courses; admission is guaranteed for those with a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher; and
• Any specific departmental requirements for entry to a particular program of study.

Alexander College students who have completed the Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree will be considered for admission to various programs at UNBC that lead to Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, or Bachelor of Health Science degrees. These programs and their admission criteria are provided in an appendix that is updated annually.

Alexander College applicants who do not hold an Associate of Science degree will be considered for admission to various programs at UNBC on a credit-by-credit basis. In addition to meeting the minimum cumulative GPA required for admission to UNBC. Applicants may have to meet specific courses and minimum grade requirements for some programs.

University transfer courses successfully completed by Alexander College applicants will be transferred at the time of admission to UNBC.

• In order to be considered eligible for transfer, a minimum grade of D- must be obtained in each course and the student must be in good academic standing, as defined by The University of Northern British Columbia academic regulations.
• A maximum of 60.0 credit hours of transfer work will be allowed.
• The BC transfer Guide specifies the transferability of individual courses between the two institutions.

Summary

This transfer agreement provides for transfer to second-year of the Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) or the Bachelor of Software (BSEng) at the University ·of Victoria. Individual course equivalencies, established in the BC Transfer Guide, form the foundation of this agreement.

Students at Alexander College take most of the first year BEng/BSEng courses, except ENGR 130, ENGR 112, and ENGR 121 (which are not available at Alexander College). Students admitted under this agreement will be placed into the second year in the Fall term of the Winter Session.

Requirements

Admission to second year of one of the Beng or BSENG programs requires successful completion of all courses in this agreement* with a minimum UVic GPA of C+ (or UVic 3.0 or ALEX 2.33) and no courses with grades less than C.

ALEX applicants will compete on an equal footing with UVic students for placement in their chosen program: Biomedical, Civil, Computer, Electrical, Mechanical or Software, which begin in second year. Where any program is over-subscribed, competitive grades* are considered. Students whose grades are not competitive to gain admission in their first choice of program will be offered an alternate second year program.

Students admitted under this agreement will be placed into the second year of the program but will be missing some first-year courses. This agreement does not provide for ‘seamless’ scheduling into the second-year programs after transfer. Upon admission, students are expected to work with a UVic academic advisor to plan for the completion of any remaining first year courses and the timing of a first work term.

This transfer agreement and course equivalency chart will be reviewed annually with respect to calendar changes and expires in five (5) years from the date of signing (until April 4, 2030).

*Schedule permitting and on the advice of the Engineering Transfer program’s advisor, students are encouraged to consider other Engineering program required courses, that are beyond those in this agreement. Note that any such courses on a student’s transcript, will also be used to determine program admissibility and the competitive admission GPA. They could affect the admission guarantee.

Adult students can complete their regular BC Dogwood Diploma while earning university transfer credit. To graduate from the program, students are required to complete a total of at least 80 credits, which must include 48 credits of required coursework, 28 credits of electives, and 3 credits of Graduation Transitions.

Adult students (at least 19 years of age) can complete their Adult Dogwood Diploma through a combination of high school and university transfer coursework. To graduate from the program, students must complete a minimum of 20 credits.

* Students who have already completed Social Studies 11 (4 credits) will need to complete two additional grade 12 Ministry authorized courses instead of three.

**All prerequisites for grade 12/University Transfer courses must be met. These courses all have grade 11 prerequisite requirements.
