Burnaby Hospital’s New Alexander College Mental Health Inpatient Unit

Burnaby Hospital has officially opened new state-of-the-art facilities as part of its major redevelopment project, bringing 45 modern patient rooms, trauma-informed spaces, and improved access to care for the Burnaby community. The newly opened health-care pavilion and support facilities building mark a significant milestone in improving patient care for Burnaby residents and surrounding communities.

Alexander College is proud to have contributed to this important initiative through its $2 million donation to Burnaby Hospital Foundation over the years in support of mental health and substance use services. The contribution helped establish the Alexander College Mental Health Inpatient Unit, a purpose-built space designed to provide compassionate, patient-centered care.

The new unit includes private patient rooms, multisensory spaces, therapeutic activity areas, and a Crisis Stabilization Unit, helping create a more supportive healing environment for patients and families.

As a post-secondary institution rooted in Burnaby, Alexander College believes education and healthcare are both essential pillars of a strong community. Supporting local healthcare initiatives reflects the college’s ongoing commitment to giving back and helping build a brighter future for Burnaby.
