Student Life: Experience Life in Canada Outside the Classroom!

Written by Alexander College in About AC on September 19, 2024

As an international student in Canada, your studies are very important, but you shouldn’t forget to enjoy life in Canada as well!

The Student Life department, often working in conjunction with the Alexander College Student Association (ACSA), plans and hosts a variety of events and workshops year-round.

These are designed to help students experience Canadian culture and learn about the cultures of other students.

This blog will go over some of the major events Student Life hosts as well as some of the features that enrich the student experience!

Student Life Features

New Student Orientation

New Student Orientation is the first event students experience when they start their academic journey at Alexander College.

This event is designed to introduce new students to the services offered at Alexander College as well as help students familiarize themselves with the campus layout.

In addition, New Student Orientation is a great way to meet other new students and make new friends!

Convocation & Alumni Services

Not only is Student Life responsible for the first event welcoming you to Alexander College, they are also responsible for the last major event in your academic journey at Alexander College: Convocation.

During Convocation we celebrate all your achievements as a student!

Once you have graduated and officially become Alexander College alumni, you will still have access to resources and services through our Alumni Services.

Volunteer Services

Want to get involved on campus? Student Life always welcomes students who want to help out for events on campus such as New Student Orientation!

Not only is volunteering a great way to make wonderful connections with other students and staff, it also can be a great addition to your future resume!

School Clubs

Aside from the Alexander College Student Association (ACSA), Alexander College also encourages students to join clubs that interest them.

Every term there is a selection of clubs ranging from cultural clubs, public speaking, games, and more.

If you can’t find a club that suits your interests, you can apply to start your own club!

Trips & Events

Interested in an upcoming movie or a trip to the mountains? Student Life hosts various events year-round that sometimes takes students off-campus to experience life outside of the classroom.

There’s seasonal events like bike rides in Stanley Park and tickets to the Canadian circus show Cirque du Soleil as well as year-round constants like movie night and hiking trips.

Attending events is a great way to experience life in Canada and make new friends along the way! You can check the Clubs and Events page to see what events are coming up.

Advice for Students

Student Life Officer Ana recommends students engage with campus life and join at least one club since life in Canada could be more than just going to school.

There’s so much learning you can do outside the classroom just by being involved in campus life!

You can find out more about Student Life by sending them an email at studentlife@alexandercollege.ca or by stopping by one of the Student Life booths on campus. See you there!
