A staple at any post-secondary institution is their library and Alexander College is no exception! Alexander College has a library at each campus so students can access library services regardless of which campus they are at.
The Alexander College Library is likely one of the first areas you will become familiar with as an Alexander College student and it will likely be a place you visit frequently throughout your academic journey.
This guide will introduce some of the many services available to you and answer some common questions students may have when visiting the library.
Every student has an Alexander College Student ID card and as a new student, one of the first stops is the library where you will get your photo taken for your Student ID. If you ever lose your ID, the library is also where you go to obtain a replacement.
Having your Student ID is very important as you cannot write your final exams without it.
Don’t have a printer at home? Not to worry, the Alexander College Library has printers available for students to use! All you need to do is register for a PaperCut account and from there, you can queue documents to print and add credit to your account.
Located within the library, there are a number of bookable study rooms if you wish to work on assignments or group projects in a dedicated space.
The Alexander College Library subscribes to a wide range of databases which give Alexander College students a variety of resources to draw upon for their research assignments. Some of these databases are open access which do not require a login.
In addition to book and DVD borrowing, the library also offers the borrowing of other items such as laptops and even video games.
For the most up-to-date loan periods, refer to the libary services page.
Q. How can I start my research?
The basis of any good research assignment starts with a solid thesis or topic idea. If you are unsure how to proceed with an assignment, the library offers research guides on various subjects and topics as well as AskAway online chat services.
Q. What happens when I return something late?
Depending on the item type, you may be fined a late fee. You cannot borrow or renew any material at the library if you have a fine on your account. For more information on late fees, check the library’s late policies under Library Services.
Alexander College Librarian Alexander’s advice for new students is to not be afraid to come to the library and ask for help. The staff at the library are always willing to lend a hand to students who need help or have questions about the library and its services.
Another piece of advice Alexander wants students to know is to manage their time wisely. Don’t book a research appointment the day before your assignment is due!
Whether you’re new to the library or a frequent visitor to the library, we hope this guide provided a better understanding of the services the library offers. As part of our student support services, the library is always there to help students on their academic journeys!
