Alexander College subscribes to a wide range of databases to be able to support the research that will be required of you in your courses – provided below is a list of these resources, containing millions of journal articles from across the disciplines.
We also have accessible a host of open access material, filtered so as to only provide the most reliable and academic sources – these are indicated in the list by the unlocked symbol ?.
To access the online library resources, log in using your student identification number and your birthdate (formatted as YYYYMMDD).
For example, if your student identification number is 101123456 and your birthdate is January 1, 2023, your username would be “101123456” and your password would be “20230101”.

This growing subscription package contains a large selection of multidisciplinary eBook titles representing a broad range of academic subject matter, and is a strong complement for any academic collection. The breadth of information available through this package ensures that users will have access to information relevant to their research needs. More than 130,000 titles are included in this package—all titles are available with unlimited user access, and titles are added to the package each month at no additional cost.

JSTOR – Asia Collection – Features journals from and about Asia and offers a broad coverage of the continent.
Kanopy – Kanopy is an on-demand streaming video service for educational institutions that provides access to more than 26,000 films each year. Kanopy works directly with filmmakers and film distribution companies to offer award-winning collections including titles from PBS, BBC, Criterion Collection, Media Education Foundation and more.
Nexis Uni is a full-text database specializing in legal cases, business and finance news and medical articles. It is also a reference database that provides polling information, statistics, country profiles, biographies and more.
NFB Campus provides 5,200 documentaries, animated films, interactive productions, and short films in English and French. In addition, there are also study guides that focus on these three themes: environment and sustainability, Indigenous voices and reconciliation, and diversity and inclusion.

Oxford English Dictionary (OED) provides the meaning, pronunciation, and history of over 600,000 words in the English language from the past to the present. The OED is regarded as the absolute authority on the English language and uses 3 million quotations from various sources to trace words back to where they first appeared.

This databases has over 215,000 peer-reviewed open access articles that are free to access, reuse and redistribute. Journal topics include biology, chemistry, and medecine.
PubMed comprises more than 30 million citations for biomedical literature from MEDLINE, life science journals, and online books. Citations may include links to full-text content from PubMed Central and publisher web sites.
