Written by Alexander College in School News on February 12, 2024

As a post-secondary institution located in the heart of Burnaby, Alexander College has always strived to give back to the city and the community that also calls this city home. Over the years, the college has contributed to organizations such as the Burnaby Board of Trade as well as Burnaby Hospital Foundation.

Alexander College cares deeply about its local community and is proud to announce its latest donation gift of $1 million dollars to Burnaby Hospital Foundation. To recognize the college’s generous donation and continued support, the Burnaby Hospital Foundation has announced the naming of the Alexander College Mental Health and Substance Use Unit, which is part of the hospital’s redevelopment Phase One. Over time, the college has donated over $2 million dollars to the Burnaby Hospital to enhance healthcare, including mental health care, to support the local community.

The new Alexander College Mental Health and Substance Use Unit will enhance patient care with a bright, purpose-built space designed with 30 private bedrooms, a multisensory room, activity spaces and a Crisis Stabilization Unit, all dedicated to the utmost care and support for patients.

Established in 1982, Burnaby Hospital Foundation supports Burnaby Hospital in raising funds to procure medical equipment, advanced technology, and anything the hospital needs to better serve the community’s needs.

Eric Zhao, co-owner and Vice President of Alexander College, states, “Healthcare, akin to education, holds a pivotal role in uplifting members of our community. It is important for all of us to support the revitalization of our hospital and especially the enhancement of its Mental Health services, as they are indispensable to the collective health and vitality of Burnaby.”

Following the naming celebration event, Alexander College cookies were given out to Burnaby Hospital staff members as a gesture of appreciation and thanks for all of the hard work they do to care for our community.
