Academic Integrity FAQ

No! You are forbidden from using any AI tools such as ChatGPT, Quillbot, or Grammarly to complete your assignments and exams. If you present AI generated material as your own work, or if you have an AI edit your work for you, you will receive an Academic Alert. Always ask your instructor if you are not sure if something is allowed.

Yes! Copying and pasting is allowed, but only if you are using sources permitted for your assignment and citing those sources correctly. Whenever you copy and paste direct quotes, you need to put the copied text in quotation marks and include in-text citations. Refer to the WLC’s citations page to learn how to cite correctly.

No! You are not allowed to buy or sell any assignments or exams. Doing so is considered academic dishonesty. If you buy or sell any assignments or exams, you will receive an Academic Alert which may lead to serious consequences.

No! You are not allowed to submit work done by another student. You will be engaging in academic dishonesty if you hand in anything that is not your own original work. If you hand in work done by another student, with or without that student’s permission, you and the other student will both receive Academic Alert.

No! You are not allowed to hand in your own work from a previous semester or a different course because it is self-plagiarism. If you self-plagiarize, you will receive an Academic Alert. If you find that an assignment is similar to one you have completed in the past, speak with your instructor.

No! You are not allowed to work with your classmate or have another student edit your work unless your instructor allows group work and collaboration. If you work on your assignment with a classmate when it is not allowed, you will both receive Academic Alert.

You can attend the Academic Integrity workshop! The workshop also covers citations and tips for exam preparation. You can sign up for the workshop on WCOnline through the 03 WLC Workshops schedule. If you have any questions, please come by the WLC or email wlc@alexandercollege.ca.
