What is an Academic Alert?

An Academic Alert is filed when instructors suspect a case of plagiarism or cheating. At Alexander College, there are two types of Academic Alerts. A standard Academic Alert is filed when it is a case of intentional plagiarism or cheating. A Type II Academic Alert is filed when it is a case of unintentional plagiarism or cheating.

Instructors will notify students via Canvas and, depending on available evidence and other considerations, instructors may consider meeting with the student before filing an academic alert.

Alexander College acknowledges that the land on which we usually gather is the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the Coast Salish peoples, including the territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. We are grateful to have the opportunity to work in this territory.
